Habitat and Care

Dwarf hamsters can be kept in a minimum cage size of 24x24x12 for a single animal. Multiple animals will require more space. To ensure no injury or escapes happen, select a cage made specifically for dwarf hamsters and have bars that are not too far apart. Glass or plastic dwarf hamster habitats can be used when adequately ventilated, and bedding is changed more often. As a beginner level animal, Teddy Dwarf hamsters are fairly easy to care for and a great choice for people looking for observation companions. Clean food and water need to be offered daily. Dwarf hamster specific chews should be rotated to help keep their teeth from overgrowing. They benefit from a variety of exercise wheels, as well as tubes and tunnels for enrichment. Dwarf hamsters can be territorial and should not be housed together as adults although same sex pairs can potentially be kept together in a larger habitat when raised together. Daily spot cleaning of the habitat is recommended and a weekly deep clean is required to keep your animal healthy long term. Dwarf hamsters generally do not appreciate handling and are best kept as observation animals.
